Dave Alexander is one of Western Swing's most exciting and
dynamic entertainers. After a short stint with the Dallas/Ft. Worth
based Red River Brass during the late 80s (initially to promote the
Red River line western wear), Dave created his own Western Swing Big
Band. Alexander has opened for such entertainers as Garth Brooks,
George Strait, Clint Black, and Reba McEntire and has performed at
the MS Rodeo Ball with Trisha Yearwood in Dallas, Texas. Three time
Grammy nominated, he has also received top honours from The Academy
of Western Artists by being voted "Entertainer of the
Year" and "Western Swing Male" when they awarded the
prestigious Will Rogers Award.
Dave Alexander's early influences came from his parent's love
of the likes of Stan Kenton, Count Basie, Duke Ellington,
Louis Armstrong and Bob Wills, which is plainly visible
in the musical style that he plays. Alexander declares,
"When I started this little musical endeavour several
years ago I had no idea it would eventually become my passion.
Western Swing is an incredible style of music….that's primarily
because of it's people, both those play it and those who
listen to it!!!"
The musicians who play with Dave are the tops. We can
find 3-time World Champion Randy 'Snuffy' Elmore on fiddle
and mandolin along with Tim Alexander on piano. Ex-Asleep
At The Wheel (5-times Grammy award winner) steel guitarist
Cindy Cashdollar is here and contributes some fine dobro
playing particularly on "Panhandle Rag". Billy
Briggs on tenor saxophone is a long time member of the Dave
Alexander band and Larry Spencer and Ken Mullin can be found
on lead trumpet and second trumpet respectively. Lead vocalist
from Bob Wills Texas Playboys, Leon Rausch helps out on
"Misery" and pianist Chris Booher can be heard
on "Blues For Dixie". In all there are 16 musicians
playing overtime on Western Boogie album, with Dave Alexander
also playing rhythm guitar and trumpet. When these guys
play other musicians take notice!!!
