Fondly known as "America's Western Sweetheart",
Californian singer/songwriter Belinda Gail is one of the most
popular and hardworking artists appearing at many western events and
shows around the U.S. So highly respected for her music, the Western
Music Association voted Belinda Female Performer Of The Year in the
years 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2002.
‘She Is A Cowgirl’ brings
12 scintillating tracks including the title track from Belinda’s
own pen along with “Daddy’s Little
Cowgirl”. Belinda Gail skilfully demonstrates
her yodeling talents on several numbers and “Below
The Old Kinney
Ridge” and “Montana Cowgirl”
show this off to perfection. Belinda and her singing/songwriting
partner Curly Musgrave co-write “Warm
Owyhee Wind”. Curly can be heard on backing
vocals as well as joining Belinda for a striking duet on
“O’ Wyoming”. Belinda
fuses her songwriting talents with that of New Mexico’s
singer/songwriter Kip Calahan for “Hooked
On Cowboys”, performing the number together.
With the inclusion of “Two Seated
Saddle” Belinda states, “Meeting Miss Dale Evans
(wife of Roy Rogers) is one of the greatest highlights of
my life. I am honoured to include this song written
by Tim Spencer of the Sons Of The Pioneers. It typifies
the joy Dale Evans brought to her music…Yes, there really
is a “two seated saddle.”
Patsy Montana made great in-roads in the advancement of the
female singer being acknowledged in their own right and
has been the inspiration of many of today's
female country singers. Patsy had the first million-seller
single by a female artists in 1935 with "I
Want To Be A Cowboy's Sweetheart" and Jill Jones
and Jean Prescott join Belinda for a fast moving and lively
version of that long time standard. A little cowboy gospel
music brings this album to a high point with the inspirational
"Tis So Sweet To Trust In Jesus".
I met Belinda at the 2004 Academy Of Western Artists
convention in Fort Worth, finding her a delightful person with a
lovely ever-ready smile and a wonderful voice to go with it. She
Is A Cowgirl and certainly a cowgirl not to be missed.
