Lovell Sisters The Lovell Sisters Band

When Forever Rolls Around

DefPig

Hailing from Calhoun, Georgia three young sisters Jessica, Megan, and Rebecca Lovell began taking lessons in classical violin and piano at the age of five. The sisters sang as a trio for church and in the church choir. All three were members of string quartets andLovell Sisters Band on stage youth symphonies and, at fifteen; Jessica was co-principle of the second violin section in the SAU Symphony Orchestra.

Two or three years ago, The Lovell Sisters strayed from their classical roots to pursue the instrumentation and improvisation of traditional music. Megan took inspiration from Jerry Douglas to play the resophonic guitar. May 2006 saw Rebecca become the first female to win the MerleFest International Mandolin Competition after being placed 3rd in 2005.

The band comprises of Jessica Lovell (fiddle, lead vocals), Megan Lovell (resophonic guitar, vocals), Rebecca Lovell (mandolin, vocals), Josh Miller (guitar, banjo) and Andy Nall (acoustic bass) though Alan Bartram is credited as playing CD coverbass on the CD.

Ten tracks make up When Forever Rolls Around, with tunesmith Josh Miller writing six of the numbers including the title track. Although Jessica takes lead vocals the three sisters harmonise beautifully with their sweet lighter than air vocals on several numbers. The highlights are many, but "Please Search Your Heart" (D. Lawson/Pete Goble) ideally showcases the girls' elegant vocals that are nothing less than stunning.

When Forever Rolls Along weaves its way through a down to earth bluegrass collection opening with Josh Miller's "All You Have To Say", incorporating a fine mandolin solo Rebecca (mandolin), Jessican (fiddle), Megan (resophonic guitar)from Rebecca and fiddle solo from Jessica. The first four numbers are all written by Josh Miller and offer some excellent songs and the instrumental "Epic Of Gigamesh" that sits well holding a forceful, rhythmic folky bluegrass style. "King Lear" is another instrumental written by Josh that can be found later on the album. The girls ideally blend their vocals once again with "Crying My Heart Out Over You" which was recorded by Flatt & Scruggs in 1960 and also gave Ricky Skaggs his first #1 in 1982. Other standout tracks are Miller's "Along The Way" and the high speed "This Morning At Nine" closing this fine set.

Along with the Lovell Sisters Band, Brent Truitt (Union Station) co-produced When Forever Rolls Along and also engineered it in Nashville. Undeniably refreshing, When Forever Rolls Along certainly rolls along nicely with music rich in quality and an album that stands high and proud.
