The incredible voice of Gene Watson takes us back to 1975 and 1977 respectively with the release of this new 2 on 1 album. Digitally re-mastered Love In The Hot Afternoon and Paper Rosie are two of Watson's best album releases taken form the prime period of his career. Gene Watson's no frills cutting edge country style drew a massive fan base here in the UK with his 18-date tour of the UK in 1979…fans who have stayed loyal to him for over two decades.

I had the great pleasure of meeting Gene Watson in the Texas town of Wichita Falls in June 2001. He was still on the road to recovery after receiving treatment to combat colon cancer. Though obviously fatigued after performing at a local honky tonk in Wichita Falls, Gene told me of his gratitude to the British fans who have stayed loyal to his music for so many years.

This 2 on 1 CD includes classic tracks from Gene Watson, several of which had been released on the Texas label Resco before Watson was signed with the Capital label. The steamy "Love In The Hot Afternoon" and "Bad Water" were just two, with "Love In The Hot Afternoon" making #3 on the country charts after being re-promoted on the Capital label. Two more hit singles followed with "Where Love Begins" and "You Could Know As Much About A Stranger" before the release of the album Love In The Hot Afternoon. Another highlight to be found on that early album is Dallas Frazier's stylish "This Just Ain't No Good Day For Leavin".

The album Paper Rosie saw the title track being one of Watson's major hits and contained further standout tracks such as "Don't Look At Me (In That Tone Of Voice)", "If The Shoe Fits Wear It", Marty Robbins' "You Gave Me A Mountain", Porter Wagoner's "Tennessee Sunshine" and Dolly Parton's "Most Of All Why".

The combination of Love In The Hot Afternoon and Paper Rosie, brings a quintessential collection to satisfy the appetite of the most passionate of country fans and a second chance to enjoy these most cherished treasures from one of country music's most spellbinding singers….Gene Watson.
