Heads You Win is a 12 track CD from Canadian Dave 'Pappy'
Hamel released on the Stardust Records International (Nashville)
banner, run by the celebrated Colonel Buster Doss. Dave
was a seaplane instructor in British Columbia's Lower Fraser
Valley. At present he is chief seaplane instructor for Fort
Langley Aviation, with a love of music taking him back to
the 1940s and his radio days at stations such as CKMO AND
CKNW. Heavily influenced by the 40's artistes like Spade
Cooley, Bob Wills, Eddy Arnold and Red Foley, Dave began
playing guitar and teamed up with Ronnie Snyder. During
Hank Snow's British Columbia tour Dave and Ron auditioned
and became members of Snow's floorshow during the tour.
Over the years Pap has opened and played along with artistes
such as Ray Price, Ian Tyson and Lisa Brokop. In the year
2000 Dave 'Pappy' Hamel was inducted into the Best Of Texas
International Country Music Hall Of Fame, making him a
four times Hall Of Famer. The European CMA Association nominated Pap & The Sidemen as the 2001 Band/Group
Of The Year and most recently the B.C. Country Music
Association nominated Pap and the Sidemen for a 'special
merit award'.
Heads You Win offers an easy country jazz sound with borrowed
songs from the likes of Frank Sinatra's 'Summer
Wind', Peggy
Lee/Dave Barbour's 'I Don't Know Enough About Love'
and
Marty Robbins' 'Is There Any
Chance'. 'Pap' includes 2 songs,
which he has co-written with Don Thompson 'I Do' and 'Back
Here With Me'. Buster Doss lends 4 of his own compositions;
along with the sensational 'Heads You Win (Tails I Lose)'
you can find 'Dreaming Once More, 'Blue Monday'
and 'Don't
Lay Your Troubles On Me'. The album is brought to a close
with the killer instrumental of Herb Remington/Hank Penny's
'Remington Ride' (which I believe steel guitar genius Buddy
Emmons recorded as 'Raisin' The Dickens').
Displaying Pap's gentle crooning vocals, Heads You Win
is ideal for that romantic late night listening with the
one you love. For further details e-mail pappy@dowco.com
