Brian Hughes is a British singer songwriter and along with The LoneSharks, a band he put together to perform his songs live are making an impression on the British country music scene. Hughes declares "we seem to be going from strength to strength this year (2005) in our inaugural UK Festival season." The band is made up of Greg Porterfield (drums), Robert Jones (guitar), Ian Newport (bass), Graham Cordiner (keyboards) from Dumbarton and Glasgow areas. He further confirms, "the live sound is very rocky and despite not being 'Pure Country', the show has been well received by both young and old audiences, C D coverwith CD sales very healthy."

Windmills offers eleven of Hughes songs, several of which follow the current Nashville Country style. Personally today's Nashville sound isn't the style country music that I fully appreciate, but saying that I do like the heart-rending "Don't Say It's Over" very much with Hughes sounding a little like Chris Isaacs and follows with a catchy love-song that highlights how life isn't all that perfect, but offers "Little Victories". Windmills has already been picked up by Atlanta Music Group who are pitching several of the songs in Nashville. The opening rocker "41 Going On 17" has been shortlisted by Travis Tritt. A true country heartbreaker can be found with "The Love That Were Not In" complete with the atmospheric crying lap steel of George Cowie. Another slow ballad is found with the title track "Windmills" which has also been shortlisted by Chris Cagle.

The Lone Sharkes on stage

Hughes has made several tips to Nashville and is due back Stateside in September 2006 and hopefully we will see another of Britain's singer/songwriter cutting a swath through the US country music scene. We're going to hear a lot more of Brian Hughes and his songwriting in the very near future and Windmills is just the start.

Nine musicians contribute their skills to the CD and very good they are too. Hughes has well deserved confidence in his songwriting and performing and in the words of his song "One Of These Days"…gonna make that Opry stage!!!
